St. Catharines, ON - The Mustangs and Brock skated a tightly contested game but the Badgers took the 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
As soon as the first period commenced, the Mustangs were able to immediately put pressure on the Badgers, getting a shot on goal just 10 seconds in. The Mustangs got the first penalty called against them, however the Badgers received a penalty shortly after, forcing the game into a four-on-four play. Although the Mustangs were putting pressure on the Badgers, Brock fought back but neither side was able to find the net in the opening twenty minutes and the score was 0-0 going into the second period.Â
The second period started off with the Mustangs trying to kill a penalty that they received at the end of the first period. At 2:15, Lawson Sherk was able to get the first goal of the game, and his seventh of the season. Sherk's goal was assisted by defenceman Jack Sander.
Shortly after the Badgers were able to tie the game at 1-1.
With less than five minutes left in the second period, the Badgers were able to score again and take the lead at 2-1, which they held through the intermission.Â
Western went into the third period eager to take their lead back, knowing that the win against the Badgers is extremely important for the playoffs. With less than 10 minutes left in the third period, there was lots of back and forth between the Mustangs and the Badgers, with both teams trying to secure yet another goal. No matter the efforts put forward by the Mustangs, they were unable to make a comeback, and lost the game 2-1.Â

The Mustangs are back home next Thursday night (January 23) for a 7pm face off against the Windsor Lancers.Â
