The Mustangs started off the first period by gaining a power play, leading to  immediate dominance from the Mustangs. Eric Van Impe was able to open up the scoring and allow the Mustangs to take the lead after less than five minutes of play. At 8:40 after a rush into the Lancers defensive zone, a shot that deflected off of the glass gave Andrew Bruder a chance for a tip in, bringing the score to 2–0 for the Mustangs. Unfortunately, the Lancers were able to score just shortly after, bringing the score to 2-1. Eric Van Impe was able to capitalize on the last seconds of the first period, and scored a goal with two seconds left, bringing the goal after the first 20 minutes to 3-1. 

The start of the second period was physical, with extra pushback from the Lancers to try and even out the scoreboard. Both teams were going back and forth on puck domination and aggressive play. At 13:43 in the second period, Zach Power was able to get a breakaway going into the Lancers zone and score the Mustangs fourth goal of the game. With just around four minutes left, Owen MacNeil was able to score the Mustangs fifth goal of the evening, with an assist from centre Zach Power. Power was able to get both a goal and an assist in the second period. 

With the commencement of the third period, the Mustangs played a strong defensive game in order to keep the goal hungry Lancers out of the Mustangs defensive zone. Unfortunately, the Lancers were able to cut into the Mustangs lead with a goal five minutes into the third period, bridging the score to 5-2. With less than five minutes to go, the Lancers were able to score yet again, bringing the score to 5-3. A final push from the Western Mustangs gives Andrew Bruder an empty net goal with six seconds left, making the final score 6-3 for the Western Mustangs.
