Waterloo, ON – The Western Mustangs battled hard on the road Saturday afternoon but fell 3–2 to the Waterloo Warriors after a last-second goal sealed the game.
The first period was a quiet one offensively, with both teams focusing on structure and puck possession. The Mustangs moved the puck well through the neutral zone and set up quality plays in the offensive end. Western showed good control in the face off circle and generated some steady offensive pressure late in the frame. After disciplined defensive play on both sides, the game remained tied heading into the second period.
The pace stayed measured in the middle frame as both teams looked for scoring chances. Western took a pair of penalties midway through the period, including an interference and roughing call, giving Waterloo extended time in the offensive zone. The Warriors capitalized on the power play to take the lead, but the Mustangs responded later in the period to even the score at 1–1. Waterloo added another before the break to carry a 2–1 advantage into the third.
In the final period, Western pushed back hard, tying the game once again to make it 2–2. The Mustangs kept the pressure on in the closing minutes, but Waterloo found the back of the net in the final seconds to take the 3–2 win.
Despite the tough result, the Mustangs showed strong effort and resilience throughout, especially in the third period where they battled to tie the game and nearly force overtime on the road.
