Mustangs end weekend with a 1-1 draw against Guelph

London, ON - The Mustangs and Gryphons played the back half of a home and home with Guelph on Sunday afternoon at Western alumni Stadium.

The Mustangs started strong with a goal in the first five minutes, taking an early 1–0 lead on a goal by Reese Fowler and set the tone for the match. Both teams worked hard in the heat, battling for possession and taking shots whenever the chance appeared. Western kept up the pressure but began to slow down as the half went on,. After a few fouls from Guelph, the Mustangs held their 1–0 advantage going into halftime. 

The second half continued with high energy as both teams fought to maintain control of the ball. Western created several promising plays but couldn't extend their lead. In the 80th minute the Gryphon's scored to tie the game 1–1. Both sides battled through the remainder of the match but weren't able to find the back of the net and it would end in a 1-1 draw.

 "We brought back our defensive identity and played with grit." said Mustangs Associate Coach Onkar Dhillon

Fowler's goal was her 7th of the season, tieing her for 3rd in the OUA.

"You have to play aggressive if you want to win." said Fowler.

NEXT GAME
There is only one weekend left in the 2025 OUA regular season, Western will wrap up the campaign with a pair of games against Windsor, starting Friday night on the road to take on the Lancers. Western returns to campus on Saturday, October 11th for a 6:00 pm start. Fans can watch the game on OUA.tv or watch LIVE at Western Alumni Stadium.
