WINDSOR, ON — The Western Mustangs opened their weekend road trip with a 4–1 loss to the Windsor Lancers on Friday night, despite a strong outing from goaltender Ella Brabrook and an early spark from forward Avry Pedersen (#5).
Windsor controlled the pace early, forcing Brabrook to make several sharp saves in the opening minutes, including a key stop on a breakaway at 7:06. Western capitalized on their first big chance of the night at 15:28 when Pedersen cut to the net and lifted a backhander past the Lancers' goaltender to give the Mustangs a 1–0 lead.
Brabrook continued to stand tall through the period, turning aside another high-danger look at the 12-minute mark, but Western couldn't generate sustained pressure as Windsor pushed back late. The Mustangs carried their one-goal edge into the first intermission.
The second period swung heavily toward the Lancers. Windsor applied consistent offensive pressure, eventually breaking through at 3:33 to tie the game. They struck again at 1:36, converting off a net-front scramble to take a 2–1 lead into the third.
Windsor kept momentum in the final frame, adding to their lead just twelve seconds in. Western worked to settle the pace and find a response, but the Lancers' pressure continued and they extended the lead further in the final minutes to secure the 4–1 result.
Despite the loss, Brabrook delivered another composed performance in net, highlighted by multiple breakaway and slot-area saves that kept Western within reach through much of the night.
The Mustangs return home next week to host the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday, November 28st at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Arena. You can watch the game live on OUA.TV.
