Box Score St. Catharines, ON – The Western Mustangs finished their first-half schedule on a high note Friday night, grinding out a 2–1 road win over the Brock Badgers. In a low-scoring game, Western leaned on strong special teams and steady defensive play to secure their final victory of the semester.
Western came out sharp to start the night, turning early pressure into immediate goal. At 2:15, Aidan Prueter opened the scoring by finishing a setup from Owen Saye, giving the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead.
Just a few minutes later, Western went to the power play and capitalized. At 5:55, Shane Bulitka scored on the man advantage off passes from Eric Van Impe and Saye, extending the lead to 2-0 and giving the Mustangs a 2-point-lead.
Western continued to manage the game well, playing smart positionally and handling their penalty kill late in the period after Connor Driscoll was called for hooking at 16:21. Strong puck support and disciplined defensive play kept Brock off the board, sending Western into the break up 2-0.
Brock cut the lead to 2-1 midway through the second period, but Western remained composed. The Mustangs killed another penalty in the second, stood strong through a third-period interference call, and leaned on goaltender Jack McNaughton, who made 30 saves on 31 shots to preserve the win.
Both teams tightened up defensively in the third, and Western closed out the game without allowing another goal.
