Toronto, ON – The Mustangs Badminton team battled hard all weekend at the 2025 OUA Championship but just came up short of a podium finish, losing to the host York Lions in the bronze medal match.
Western started the weekend with a 7-3 win over McMaster on Friday morning but followed that up with a 10-0 loss to the eventual OUA Champion Toronto Varsity Blues.
The Mustangs rebounded on Saturday with a 6-4 win over Ontario Tech, which thrust them into the playoff round. In the quarterfinals, the Mustangs battled to a 5-5 draw with the Ottawa Gee-Gees, but Western advanced to the semi-final due to more games won in the tie (13-11).
On Sunday, the Mustangs dropped their meeting with the Waterloo Warriors 7-1, and that sent them to the bronze medal match against the host Lions. In the bronze match, Jasper Tang & Noah Xu got a point in men's doubles while Christina Lin & Jasmine Shi also picked up a point in Women's Doubles. Lin was the only Mustang to get a point in singles matches, and York would win the match 6-3 and take the bronze medal.
