On Wednesday night, the Mustangs continued their road trip against the Windsor Lancers. Western was without their leading scorer, Noah Otshudi, and veteran point guard Imran Armstrong was inserted into the starting lineup.
The Mustangs nailed 4 threes in the first quarter and scored 15 points off Windsor's 7 turnovers. They led 24-21, led by Lucas Sheets with 8 points including 2 threes.
The Windsor offense outscored the Mustangs by 16 in the quarter to lead at the half 47-36. Mikyle Malabuyoc led Western in scoring, finishing the half with 11 points and 3 assists. Matteo Zagar also hustled on the glass, grabbing 6 rebounds to his 8 points.
Windsor's offense took advantage of the Mustangs 17 turnovers. Western's shooting had been on fire the past 8 games, but tonight it let them down. After making 4 threes in the first quarter, the Mustangs only made 6 threes for the rest of the game. Western continued to fight though, clawing their way back from a 12-point deficit to make it a 6-point game within the final minute. Windsor closed out the game 83-77, snapping the Mustangs 8-game win streak. Imran Armstrong led the way for the Mustangs, knocking down 5 of the teams' 10 threes on the night. Zagar also notched a 15-point 13-rebound double-double.
Western returns home for a rematch against the Lancers at 8PM EST on Saturday, February 8th.
