Mustangs take second straight overtime win against Ottawa on the road

Ottawa, ON - The Mustangs Men's Hockey team had a second straight dramatic finish. After a 13 round shootout win over McGill last weekend, the Mustangs skated to a 3-2 overtime win against Ottawa on Friday night.

The first period started off with the Mustangs getting a shot on goal, just seconds into the game. Goaltender Jack McNaughton started in goal against the Gee Gees and was able to keep up with the pressure from the opposing team. Zach Power was able to open up the scoring for the Mustangs on a power play, assisted by Captain Shane Bulitka and defenceman Jack York at 17:01.

The first period ended with the Mustangs in the lead, 1-0.

The Mustangs came into the second period with the lead, which meant that Ottawa immediately pushed back. A blocked shot on goal left goaltender Jack McNaughton appearing injured, requiring him to be escorted off the ice just minutes into the second period. Matteo Drobac was put to play the rest of the game. The Mustangs received a penalty, but were able to shut down all the Gee Gees attempts for a power play goal. However, the Gee Gees were able to tie it up 15 minutes into the second period. Less than one minute later, Aidan Preuter was able to bring the Mustangs back in the lead, with assists from Jack York and Jacob Santerre.

With 14 seconds left of the second period, the Gee Gees tied the game up, closing the second period 2-2.

With the score being tied, both teams were fighting hard to take puck possession and take the lead. The Mustangs were able to get a powerplay after a scramble, however, they were unable to capitalize. The third period ended with the score still staying at 2-2, forcing the game into 3-on-3 overtime.

During overtime, although the Mustangs gave themselves many chances, however were unsuccessful. A trip by the Gee Gees on the breakaway gave Andrew Bruder a penalty shot during overtime, but that was unsuccessful. However, Eric Van Impe was able to get the game-winning goal in overtime for the Mustangs, bringing the score to 3-2.
