Twelve Mustangs & Head Coach Croley headed to 2025 FISU Summer World University Games

London, ON – The Mustangs Track & Field team will have a large representation at the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games in Germany this summer as a dozen athletes and a coach have been announced as part of the Athletics team today.

Of the 50-person roster, the Mustangs have 12 athletes competing at the event including:

Boug, Okpali & Duckan will all be in the in the 4x400 relay pool as well. Boug & Ogor will be in the 4x100 relay pool.

The team will be led by retiring Mustangs Head Coach Vickie Croley, who has been named Head Coach of the Athletics squad.

"I am both honoured and excited to be leading this FISU team. We have a talented team of 50 U SPORTS athletes representing Canada in all event groups:  12 sprinters, 6 hurdlers, 14 middle and long distance runners, 10 jumpers and 5 throwers, and 3 combined event athletes." said Croley. "In total, we have 26 women and 24 men. The team boasts many of the best U SPORTS athletes from the 2024-25 season, including 12 U SPORTS Champions. "

Kenneth West is coming off a marquee university season, including a record-setting gold medal performance in the Long Jump at the OUA Championship and then added a pair of gold medals in the Long Jump & Triple Jump at the U SPORTS Championship.

"I am extremely excited for FISU. I had heard about it a few years back and always wanted to make the team." said West. "It is one of the biggest multi-sport events in the world. To compete there alongside so many of my Western teammates and to represent Canada is such a privilege."

Liv Sands had another dominant season, especially in the Shot Put, where she won gold at the OUA & U SPORTS Championships in convincing fashion.

"I am beyond excited to not only compete for Canada but also represent Western on the world stage," said Sands. "This will be my first national team and I'm happy I get this opportunity to compete alongside fellow Mustangs."

After dealing with injuries throughout the university season, Boug is looking forward to the opportunity to compete again.

"Being selected to represent U SPORTS and Canada for FISU with so many of my wonderful teammates is such an exciting way to complete my final collegiate season." said Boug. "Coming off such a strong indoor season with the team, I know we are all capable of representing both Canada and Western very well!"

Shahzadeh finished 2nd in the Long Jump at the OUA & U SPORTS Championship this season.

"After years of hard work, it's truly an honour to be able to represent my country doing the sport I love," said Shahzadeh. "It's even more special doing it alongside many of my teammates and my amazing head coach, Vickie Croley"

The 2025 edition will be staged in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany, with athletics taking place July 21-27 in Bochum, Germany.
