London, ON - The Mustangs rebounded from a 2-0 loss to McMaster on Friday night with a 2-0 win over Algoma on Sunday.
The game started off with both teams really pushing each other and shooting but not getting the ball in. At 11 minutes in Algoma took a shot but it was saved by the Mustangs goaliekeeper Francesco Caputi. As the half continued, the Thunderbirds got a yellow card. Both teams had been going neck to neck trying to get a goal in. With 5 minutes until halftime, the Mustangs shot and missed but in the 43rd minute were able to crack the scoreboard when Matthew Rogers scored, with the assist going to Callum Yuile, making it 1-0.Â
The second half began with a shot from the Thunderbirds that went in but was called an offside by the referee. As the game continued, the players on the opposing team started fighting harder and the game intensified. Later in the half, the Mustangs got a penalty shot and unfortunately missed. With around 20 minutes left, the Mustangs shot another penalty and missed again. At this point the game wasn't looking too good for Algoma, however they had many amazing saves out of countless shots made by the Mustangs. In extra time the Mustangs would get an insurance goal from Panos Tzanetsakis, with the assist going to Yuile. This secured the 2-0 win.Â
