London, ON - The Mustangs Women's Soccer team picked up a second win of the weekend with a 4-0 shutout of Algoma on Sunday.
The Mustangs started off this game strong with many shots taken at a quick pace. Algoma had 2 shots throughout the half on Western, both of which were saved by Mustangs goalkeeper Samantha St. Croix. In the 32nd minute, The Mustangs opened the scoring with a goal from Reese Fowler, assisted by Hailey Slobodian, bringing them up 1-0. There were a couple of foul plays from both teams leading up to halftime.Â
In the second half there were a few more foul plays until the Mustangs got another goal from Sophia Saville, unassisted in the 58th minute to make it 2-0. The Thunderbirds worked hard to keep Western off their side, but the Mustangs kept pushing. In the 74th minute Slobodian picked up her 2nd of the year, with the assist going to Fowler, bringing the Mustangs lead to 3-0. Algoma continued to fight for the ball with some fire but Fowler got her second of the match, Tessa Dubois-Phillip got the assist and Western took the 4-0 lead.
