TORONTO, ON - It was a gritty weekend for the Mustangs, but Western found a way to get it done twice. The men battled through long sets and tough moments, showing resilience on every point. Strong finishes made the difference when it mattered most. Western walked away with two hard-earned wins.
Friday, January 9
GAME RECAP
TMU jumped out early in the first set and built a quick lead, forcing Western to call a timeout at 9–5. TMU kept the pressure on with steady offense and led again at 16–12 after another Western timeout. Western tried to respond late, but TMU stayed in control and took the set 25–16.
Western settled in during the second set and kept the score close from the start. The teams traded points through the middle, with neither side pulling away. Late in the set, the score stayed tight past 24–24 as both teams made big plays. Western finished strong and edged out a 30–28 win to even the match.
Western carried momentum into the third set and opened with an early run that pushed TMU into a timeout. Strong serving and blocking helped Western stretch the lead through the middle of the set. TMU tried to respond late, but Western answered quickly each time. Western closed the set 25–19.
In the fourth set, Western came out aggressive and forced a TMU timeout early at 6–1. Western continued to control the pace and stayed ahead through the middle of the set. TMU called another timeout at 14–11, but Western kept scoring and limited TMU runs. Western won the set 25–17 to force a fifth.
The fifth set stayed close early, with both teams trading points. Western held a slim 8–7 lead at the switch. TMU stayed within reach late, but Western made key plays down the stretch. Western closed the set 15–13 to complete the five-set comeback.
Saturday, January 10

Western responded in the second set with a much tighter start, trading points early. The set stayed close through the middle, with neither team creating separation. Late in the set, the score pushed past 24–24 as both teams made key plays. Western stayed composed and took the set 30–28.
In the third set, Western took control early and forced TMU into a timeout with a strong run. Western stayed steady on serve and defense, keeping TMU from building momentum. TMU tried to close the gap late, but Western answered with timely points. Western won the set 25–19.
Western opened the fourth set with another strong start and pushed TMU into an early timeout at 6–1. Western continued to score in bunches and held the lead through the middle of the set. TMU could not slow the momentum as Western stayed aggressive late. Western closed the match with a 25–17 win.
