Mustangs Fall Short Against Windsor 4-3

LONDON, Ontario — The Mustangs opened a weekend home-and-home against Windsor, skating to a 4-3 loss to the Lancers.

he Mustangs scored all three of their goals in the second period but were held scoreless in the first and third despite a 13-shot third period.

"It was OUA West tough regular season game against one of the top teams in the conference. I think they played well. I thought we played pretty well. A few careless plays with the puck unfortunately, they get a short-handed goal. They get a goal off a face-off play, which is, we pre-scouted that play too and just didn't work for us." said Mustangs Head Coach Clarke Singer. "I credit to Windsor, a really good game. I thought our guys battled hard. I think outshot them 16 to 6 in the third period just couldn't find a way to get the tang goal."

GAME RECAP

Windsor put Western behind early when Logan Linklater scored at 1:47 off assists from Noah Szabo and Ty Toews. The Mustangs spent part of the middle of the period defending after Sebastian Hicks was called for high sticking at 12:01 and again at 14:01, giving Windsor consecutive power-play opportunities. The period later shifted to a Western power play after Ray Hamlin was called for interference at 15:11, but the first ended with Windsor ahead 1-0.

Western got the second-period scoring started at 3:20, when Zac McCann finished from Owen Saye and Bo Eisner to tie the game at 1-1. Windsor moved back in front on Connor MacPherson's goal at 6:37, but Graeme MacAuley answered at 8:34 off assists from Nicholas Yearwood and Darius Bachler to make it 2-2. After Bradley Fraser's delay-of-game penalty put the Mustangs on the power play, Windsor scored short-handed through Logan Linklater at 11:24 before Zander Veccia scored at 16:01, again with assists from Yearwood and Bachler, to even the game at 3-3. Saye was called for high sticking late, including a penalty at 19:25 that started a Windsor power play, and the period ended tied 3-3.

Windsor opened the third with a power-play sequence after Bradley Fraser's penalty expired, and the advantage ended once Owen Saye's penalties were complete. Windsor scored the only goal of the period at 3:37, when Connor MacPherson scored off assists from Aaron Shaw and Noah Szabo. The Mustangs were held scoreless in the third period, and Windsor finished the game with a 4-3 result.
