The Mustangs Respond with Three Straight Sets to Defeat McMaster

Game Recap:

HAMILTON, ON -

The Western Mustangs fought back after losing the opening set to earn a 3-1 win over the McMaster Marauders on their home court. After dropping the first set, Western found its rhythm and controlled much of the rest of the match, winning three straight sets to secure the victory.

The opening set was close from the start, with both teams trading points and neither side able to build much of a lead. Western battled back midway through the set and tied things at 16-16, but McMaster took control late. The Marauders put together a strong run in the final points and pulled away to win the set 25-21 and take an early lead in the match.

Western responded well in the second set, establishing control from the beginning and building an early advantage. The Mustangs maintained consistent pressure and appeared comfortable with a multi-point lead for most of the set. McMaster had a late comeback, lessening the gap to just one point and threatening to erase the lead entirely. Instead, Western remained composed in the closing moments, winning key rallies and securing the final points needed to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 set win.

The third set was Western's best of the afternoon. The Mustangs got off to a fast start and quickly opened up a large lead. Strong serving, solid defence and consistent attacking helped Western stay in control throughout the set. McMaster struggled to slow the momentum, and the Mustangs never looked back on the way to a convincing 25-13 victory, making it a 2-1 game.

Western carried that momentum into the fourth set and once again built an early lead. The Mustangs kept the pressure on and did not allow McMaster to get close for most of the set. While the Marauders put together a small push late, Western remained in control and closed out the match with a 25-19 set to win 3-1.
