Western vs York February 6 95-68
Tait Mckenzie Centre, North York
It felt like one of those nights at the Tait McKenzie Centre where Western never lets you breathe. From the opening possessions the gym carried that locked in energy, the kind where every deflection turns into a sprint and every stop becomes an instant offense.
The first quarter set the tone. Matteo Zagar opened the scoring and Tye Cotie immediately started causing problems in the open floor. Imran Armstrong knocked down an early three and Milan John went to work inside, finishing through contact and throwing down a dunk that jolted the building. Western shot efficiently, controlled the paint, and built a 24–15 lead that felt heavier than the scoreboard suggested.
In the second quarter York tried to steady itself behind Jeremiah Kwarteng, but Western's depth kept stretching the gap. Emmanuel Akot brought force off the bench, scoring around the rim and stepping out to hit a three, while Owen Urquhart provided calm finishing inside. Lucas Sheets connected from deep and the ball continued to move freely. Western added another 23 points and went into halftime up 47–33, fully in control of the game's rhythm.
The third quarter was where Western put the game away. John opened the half with a three, Cotie kept attacking the paint, and Pryce caught fire from the perimeter to ignite a decisive run. Akot capped it with powerful finishes and Western shot 12 of 16 in the quarter, exploding for 27 points and pushing the lead to 74–51.
The fourth quarter had moments of edge, with John finding his groove again and Armstrong drilling a three that stretched the lead past 30. York never found a way back in as Western stayed disciplined, shared the ball, and closed the night the same way it started, together and in control. When the horn sounded, the Mustangs had secured a 95–68 win.
Western's efficiency told the story. The Mustangs shot 58 percent from the field and moved the ball for 24 assists, scoring 44 points in the paint and getting 35 points from the bench. York leaned on Kwarteng's 26 points which half were at the free throw line, but Western's defense held the Lions to just 34 percent shooting and four made threes.
