London, ON - Western's prestigious Purple Blankets are presented to the student athletes who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, achieved superior distinction at the Provincial/National level of competition as representatives of Western.

Aaron Thompson of the Mustangs Track & Field team is a 2026 recipient of this honour.



Joining the team in the fall of 2023 for medical school, Aaron immediately made an impact not only athletically but also as a leader. After only competing in track and field in the final year of his masters, Aaron has gone above and beyond with everything he has done at Western.

He is the only Western sprinter to be on the top 10 list in 3 individual events and both relays.

He has 11 OUA medals, 3 U SPORTS gold medals, two U SPORTS Team Gold Medals and has won a combined 5 OUA & U SPORTS Community Service Award medals.

Thompson shares what it meant to win a purple blanket and also a few key memories of his time as a Mustang.
