Her primary research area is in Canadian sport history, with a specific interest in contemporary Aboriginal sport practices. In addition, Janice provides her leadership skills to many organizations including Sport Canada, the Aboriginal Sport Circle, Athletes CAN, and the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity.

Her collegiate athletic career here began in Badminton where she was a medalist at the OUA Championship. After taking up competitive running, over a three period she developed into a national level athlete. In her 5-year career in Cross Country, Janice was a starter on Mustangs squads that won three OUA Championship team titles (1992, 1994, 1995) and CIS team silver twice (1994 & 1995). She was twice an OUA 1st Team All-Star (1994 & 1995) and her 8th place finish at the 1995 CIS Nationals and 9th place finish at the 1994 CIS Nationals garnered her 2nd Team All-Canadian honours. In Track, Janice won the silver medal in 3000m at the 1995 OUA Track & Field Championship with a personal best of 9:52.15. Her other pb’s over her Track career are 2:55.9 for 1000m and 4:35.0 for 1500m.
