Born and raised in London, Kevin MacNeill enters his first season with the Mustangs in 2019 with extensive coaching experience.  MacNeill began his U Sports coaching career at Wilfrid Laurier University, his alma mater, and followed with University of British Columbia where he held several roles ranging from linebackers coach to recruitment coordinator to special teams coordinator.  He left UBC to take on the position of Defensive Coordinator at the University of Guelph in 2010, and during his six years in the role he led the defence to become one of the top defensive units in the country, culminating in the 2015 Yates Cup Victory. Following his time managing the defence, MacNeill spent two years as Head Coach, leading the team to the Yates Cup semi-finals in 2017.

MacNeill's career has also included coaching internationally with Canada's Junior National Team as well as various coaching positions within the Ontario Varsity Football League, where as Head Coach he won Coach of the Year in 2006.  Kevin lists among his coaching highlights, in addition to the relationships he has developed with his players, winning the Vanier Cup with the Golden Hawks in 2005, the Yates Cup victory of 2015, his experiences coaching three OUA President's Trophy Winners, and witnessing the successful professional careers of several of his former players. 

MacNeill played locally for Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School and the London Beefeaters.  As a player at WLU, he was a CIS Second Team All-Canadian, a two-time OUA All-Star, team MVP and was signed by the Montreal Alouettes. MacNeill holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Wilfrid Laurier University) and a Master of Arts in Leadership (University of Guelph).  Kevin and his wife Monica, who currently serves as Western's Manager of Graduate Student Life, have three young children; Hailey, Stephen and Evie.
