While at McMaster, Forsyth was recognized in 1998 with the Gino Fracas Award as CIS Volunteer Coach of the Year.
Before joining the Marauders, Forsyth spent four seasons working with the defensive backs for the Mount Allison Mounties (1985-1988), winning the AUS conference championship in 1985 and appearing in the Atlantic Bowl.
Forsyth played defensive back for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks under Tuffy Knight. He graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a BA in 1980 and from Mount Allison University with a B.Ed. in 1986.
