Cotten finishes second overall, winning silver in heptathlon at Francophone Games

Former FWP Jones Trophy winner solid on international stage

BERUIT, Lebanaon – Western Mustangs track and field star Jen Cotten won the silver medal in the heptathlon at les Jeux de la Franchophonie on Oct. 3-4 in Beruit. Her overall score of 5,230 points was a new personal best, as Cotten finished second behind Gabriella Kouassi of France (5,460).

Cotten (Barrie, Ont.) posted this outstanding performance just two months after an ankle sprain suffered Aug. 29 at the Canada Summer Games, where she won gold.

"Jen's performance was impressive," said head coach Vickie Croley. "With the help of physiotherapist Nancy Adams and Jen's diligence, she was able to recover and maintain her training leading up to competing Oct. 3-4 at the Jeux de la Francophonie."

"I was pleased with Jen's ability to adapt to the unique conditions at a multi-sport event and to achieve a personal best," Croley said. "She continues to demonstrate that she is a great competitor. Winning the silver medal was a bonus for Jen."
