Screaton leads with 17 points as Mustangs maintain winning streak

Nov. 15: Western 3 Brock 1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19)

LONDON, Ont. – The Mustangs beat the Brock Badgers, 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19), on Nov. 15 at Alumni Hall.

The game was Western’s fourth consecutive win this season.

With a 5-1 record, the Mustangs and McMaster are tied for second place in the OUA West division.  Neither team has faced the first-place, undefeated Waterloo Warriors (6-0).  McMaster plays Waterloo on Nov. 20, while the Mustangs face-off against the Warriors on Nov. 27.

Western was dominant in the first set, winning 25-12.  The strong attack mounted by the Badgers in the second set took Western by surprise, resulting in a 21-25 loss for the Mustangs.  Western took the third and fourth sets (25-22, 25-19), but with closer scores than their first-set win.

Elaine Screaton (Calgary, Alta.) led the way for the Mustangs with a 17-point performance that included 17 kills, six digs and one assisted block.

With 16 points apiece were Sarah Lowry (Calgary, Alta.) with 16 kills and three digs, and Sara Farrell (London, Ont.) with 10 kills, four service aces, four digs, and four assisted blocks.

The women play their next game in Windsor against the Lancers on Nov. 22 at 2:00 p.m.
