LONDON, Ont. - Freshman Alex Lewis scored the lone goal five minutes into the contest as the Western Mustangs shutout Waterloo 1-0 on Sunday at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
With the win, No. 2 nationally ranked Western improves to 10-0-1.
Andrew Murdoch of Burlington, Ont., recorded his ninth shutout of the win with one save.
Western blanked UOIT on Friday night with a 2-0 victory.
The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
On Monday, they were named the OUA`s team of the month for September with a perfect 8-0-1 record through the month. Allowing just four goals in nine games, the Mustangs are ranked No. 2 in the CIS and have the best record in the OUA. Murdoch recorded seven shutouts in the nine games in September as the Western offence recorded 20 goals in that stretch, led by Niko Mavrikos' nation-leading 10 goals.
The Mustangs outscored their September opponents 20-4 in nine games and won their first two games in October 2-0 over UOIT on Friday and 1-0 over Waterloo on Sunday.
