WATERLOO, Ont. - On Hallowe'en, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks defeated the Western Mustangs 3-1. With the win, they improve to 7-1 while the Mustangs fall to 3-4 on the season.

The lone goal of the first period was scored by Katherine Shirriff (Carrying Place, Ont.), her third of the season.

Then Mustang Emilie Canham (Scarborough, Ont.) beat Lix Knox (Stouffville, Ont.) 16 seconds into the second period to tie the game up at 1-1.

About a minute later, the momentum continued to shift in favour of the Mustangs with Laurier’s Caitlin Muirhead (Waterloo, Ont.) getting an interference call, the Hawks defence had to stand strong to keep the game tied up.

Then Devon Skeats (Whitby, Ont.) did more than that as she netted a shorthanded marker to take the wind out of Western's sails. 

Skeats scored again in the third period on the power play to give the Hawks a commanding 3-1 lead.

Lix Knox had a relatively easy night making 12 saves on 13 shots while Jessica Ulrich (Keswick, Ont.) blocked 29 shots of 32 in the loss for the Mustangs.
