The Western Mustangs came up just short in a late comeback run, losing 20-17 to McMaster in the rain and mud in the OUA championship final at Fletcher's Fields in Markham, Ont.
Western opened scoring on converted try Andrew Crow, but McMaster replied to tie the game at seven.
McMaster took the lead for good at 10-7 lead on a penalty goal 26 minutes into the game and then scored a try off a turnover at Western's 15-yard line for a try and led 17-7 at the half.
Another Marauder penalty goal made it 20-7 for McMaster early in the second half, but Western scored two unconverted tries from Conor Trainor and Tom Bridger to cut the lead to three points, 20-17.
Western had the ball on the McMaster try-line but could not punch it in with 10 minutes left.
After going through the regular season with an 8-0 record and defeating Brock in the OUA semifinal, this was Western's only loss of the season.
