First-round bye earned in win over Waterloo

Feb. 13: Western 76 Waterloo 66

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Western Mustangs women’s basketball team has clinched second place in OUA West Division with a win over the Waterloo Warriors Feb. 13 by a score of 76-66. 

With the second place position locked up, the Mustangs have earned themselves a bye in the first round of playoffs. Western will host an OUA West semifinal, likely on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at Alumi Hall. 

The Mustangs travelled to take on Waterloo for a 12 p.m. game on Feb. 13, after coming off an 83-75 win over McMaster on Feb. 10.

Jacklyn Selfe (Burlington, Ont.) led the Mustangs to victory with 21 points against the Warriors while teammates Beckie Williams (London, Ont.) and Rebecca Moss (Waterloo, Ont.) combined for 26 points to help with the win.

Amanda Anderson (Chatham, Ont.) continues to chase her total career points record finishing today’s game with nine points. Her career point total sits at 1,592 still sitting in fourth behind Jennifer Donofrio( RMC 2003-2008) with 1,602 and Jodie Ebeling (Brock 2002-2007) with 1,624. Cassandra Carpenter of Laurentian still holds the OUA record career points with 2,171 from 2003-2008.

The Mustangs will play back-to back games away against Lakehead for their final two games of the regular season, both starting at 6 p.m. on Feb. 19 and Feb. 20.
