TORONTO - The Western Mustangs smashed the McMaster Marauders at the annual Lax Bash Day of Rivals hosted this year at Toronto's Lamport Stadium.
Senior Reid Crombie paced Western (1-1) with four points (2G, 2A).
National Lacrosse League player Scott Tinning of the Edmonton Rush opened the scoring and assisted on the second goal as Western carried a 2-0 lead after the first quarter.
Tinning, of Kitchener, added another goal in the second quarter as Western held a 5-2 lead at halftime.
McMaster kept it close with a pair of powerplay goals in the third quarter to pull within two goals, trailing 6-4, but Western scored with 36 seconds left in the quarter to lead 7-4 after three.
In the fourth, the Mustangs outscored McMaster 4-1 to hold on for victory.
Aurora, Ont., native Perry Watt got the win in net for Western.
Other Mustangs factoring in on scoring were Scott Watson of London with two goals and Kirk Gatten, Dylan Pitchforth, Taylor Rivers, Tyler Poulter and Ryan Taylor with one goal each.
Western travels to face Laurentian in a pair of games Sept. 25-26 before returning home to host McMaster on Thursday Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. at TD Waterhosue Stadium.
