New-look Mustangs get first win of exhibition season

Sept. 21: Western 4 London Juniors 1

LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs women's hockey team got their first win of the season 4-1 against the London Juniors team. The Mustangs are in the midst of their preseason schedule having already played games against Queen's and Carleton.

Western dropped the game against Queen's 2-1, and then lost two against Carleton, one 5-3 and a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in a shootout. All those games were on the road and once the Mustangs were back in the friendly confines of Thompson arena they were back on track.

, Meghan Hewins (Burlington, Ont.), Chantal Morais (Guelph, Ont.) and Holly Ouellette (Toronto) scored for the Mustangs in the victory. Sharing the netminding duties in the win were Olivia Ross and Jessica Ulrich (Keswick, Ont.)

The Mustangs will get to play a couple more exhibition games at home before they start their OUA regular season. Western will play the Whitby Juniors on Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. and then will battle the London Juniors again on Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. Both games are at home in Thompson arena.

The Mustangs will play their first regular season game on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. against the Windsor Lancers. The game will be played at Thompson arena.
