GUELPH, Ont. - The Western Mustangs improved to 8-2 on the season with a back-and-forth win 3-2 against the Guelph Gryphons Friday night.
The Mustangs lost the first set 25-17 before responding to win the next two 25-21 and 25-17. The Gryphons forced a final set by winning the fourth one 25-18. Western was able to pull out that set and secure the victory with a 15-13 score.
Rebecca Oxland and Elaine Screaton led the Mustangs' attack with 14 kills each. Screaton added two aces and ten digs while Oxland had one ace and 12 digs.
Guelph falls to 9-3 with the loss while the Mustangs are now tied for third place with an 8-2 record.
The Mustangs continue their tough road weekend as they head to Hamilton to face first place McMaster at 6 p.m.
