Mustangs drop five set thriller 3-2 against Marauders

Jan. 15: McMaster 3 Western 2 (25-18, 25-27, 23-25, 25-22, 11-15)

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs women's volleyball team lost a close match with the McMaster Marauders 3-2 in Hamilton on Saturday evening.

The loss ends the Mustangs' six game winning streak and puts them at 8-3 on the year. McMaster improves to 11-1 on the season.

Kelly Frittenberg led the Mustangs' attack with 15 kills, one ace, one solo block and five digs. Jenna Thomson had eight kills, four aces and 24 digs.

The Mustangs won the first set 25-18 before dropping the next two 27-25 and 25-23. Western fought back to win the fourth set 25-22 and force the fifth and deciding set.

Western stayed tough with the first place Marauders but ended up dropping the final set 15-11.

The Mustangs will return to play at home on Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. against RMC.
