OUA Men's Rugby Semi-Final Saturday night under the lights - Mustangs vs. Gryphons

The 2011 OUA Men’s Rugby semi-final will see The University of Western Ontario Mustangs taking on the Guelph Gryphons at Western’s TD Waterhouse Stadium. Game day is Saturday, November 5, with kickoff set for 7:00 PM under the lights.

The last time these two teams met was back on September 7 in Guelph when Western soundly defeated the Gryphons 25-7. Western has the opportunity to host the OUA Final next Sunday, November 12, and would love to win the OUA Championship on home field after last year’s bitter defeat in the final against McMaster at Fletcher’s Fields in Markham.

Western will be looking for a big game from some key players. Mike Turnbull is second in league scoring with 61 points, and is also second in conversions with 19, one behind the leader Liam Underwood of Queen’s.

Also having big seasons are Rory Tomlinson and Andrew Crow. Tomlinson is tied for the league lead in tries with 7, and Crow sits 14th in scoring with 5 tries for 25 points.

Western will be hungry for a second chance at the league championships after the loss last year, and the game promises to bring tenacity and big plays from both sides as they both fight for the win. The winner will play either McMaster or Queen’s for the championship as they face each other in the other semi-final on Saturday afternoon in Kingston.
