GUELPH, Ont. - The Western Mustangs won three straight sets after dropping the first to take the OUA Championship 3-1 over the Guelph Gryphons in hostile territory at the Mitchell Centre in Guelph, Ont.
Western started out slow losing the first set to Guelph 25-18. They battled back and took the next three winning with set scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-21.
Sarah Johnston had 11 kills for the Mustangs with two aces, one solo block and five assisted blocks. Kelly Frittenberg had 10 kills, five assisted blocks, four digs and three aces. Jenna Thomson, who won OUA Final Four MVP, had eight kills, 37 assists, two aces, 10 digs and three assisted blocks.
The Mustangs will advance to the CIS Nationals at Laval University on March 4-6.
