Women's Volleyball Preview: Western vs. Windsor

After a weekend at home, the Western Mustangs women’s volleyball team heads back on the road tonight to challenge the Windsor Lancers. It was an interesting weekend in Alumni Hall where the Mustangs challenged the OUA tenth place Lakehead Thunderwolves, losing on Saturday in three straight sets, only to come back on Sunday and defeat Lakehead in three straight sets putting their OUA regular season record at 5-4.

Captain Rebecca Oxland still holds second place in the OUA with 4.48 points per game, as well as second place in the CIS behind Ottawa’s Krueger Schwanke.

The ‘Stangs rally with the Windsor Lancers for the first time in the regular season tonight on the Lancers’ court in Windsor.

Windsor Lancers – Wednesday, November 28, 6:00 p.m.

The Windsor Lancers women’s volleyball team had a difficult 2011-2012 season finishing in 12th place, missing the playoffs with a 3-15 regular season record. Putting the past behind them, the Lancers have created a new team with a fresh rookie class, in hopes of earning a playoff spot.  Welcoming seven new rookies to the squad, almost half of Windsor’s team is fresh to the Lancer jersey.

Leading the young squad is veteran player and 2011-2012 OUA Second-Team All-Star, Kaila Seguin. Seguin had a strong season in 2011-12 finishing third in the OUA with 3.31 kills per set, also good for eighth place in the CIS, as well as finishing in fourth place in the OUA with 3.82 points per game.

Most recently the Windsor Lancers fell in three straight sets to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday (25-14, 25-20, 25-17) and again to the RMC Paladins (31-29, 25-12, 25-19) on Sunday, slowing their playoff march. Windsor enters tonight’s game with a 2-6 record.

Game time is schedule for 6:00 p.m. tonight at Windsor’s St. Denis Centre.
