LONDON, Ont.- The Western Mustangs fell to the McGill Redmen 4-1 on Saturday night. McGill captured it’s third straight Queen’s Cup victory with the win.
The rivalry between the two teams was evident early and remained a factor throughout the course of the game.
McGill’s Evan Vossen found himself in on a partial breakaway just two minutes into the game. Vossen’s initial shot was stopped by Mustangs
Josh Unice but Redmen forward Andrew Wright banged in a rebound that gave McGill a 1-0 lead early.
The Redmen found themselves up 2-0 just minutes later after a nice passing play by Christophe Longpre-Poirier and Francis Verreault-Paul was finished off by Benoit Levesque.
Unice came up with a magnificent glove save as Verreault-Paul missed a glorious opportunity just 15 seconds into the second.
The prior Unice save lead to Western’s first goal of the game at at 2:04.

Keaton Turkiewicz gave the Mustangs some much needed momentum at the beginning of the period.
The turning point of the game came seven minutes later. While a man down, Western’s
Geoff Killing tried to glove an air-bourn puck behind Unice but ended up batting it into his own goal.
The powerplay goal was given to Verreault-Paul at 9:01.
Longpre-Poirier finished off a tic-tac-toe play by the Redmen and gave his team a 4-1 lead at 8:57 of the third.
Western was unable to get anything significant going in the remainder of the period.
A big scrum broke out with under two minutes remaining that saw four players receive ten minute misconduct penalties.
The player of the game award was given to Verreault-Paul, who earned a goal and two assists in the game.
Both teams will travel to Fredericton, New Brunswick to compete in the 2012 Cavendish University Cup. The tournament runs March 22-25.
