Mustangs Baseball opens season with win over Waterloo

The Western Mustangs baseball team hit the field for the team’s first game of the 2012 season on Wednesday night at Labatt Park. The Mustangs used a strong pitching performance from former OUA Most Valuable Pitcher Adam Paish and a good first game from left fielder Craig Jacques to defeat the Waterloo Warriors 10-2.

Paish was impressive in his first start of the season, allowing only one earned run on six hits while striking out four and walking none in seven innings to earn the win. Christian Davies was also strong in relief allowing only one walk and one hit in two innings of work to close out the game.

Offensively the Mustangs were led by Jacques who went two-for-three with a walk, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Designated hitter Nolan Anderson also had a good night at the plate, going one-for-two at the plate with a walk and three runs scored.

Next up for the Mustangs is the Laurier Invitational Tournament this weekend in Milton.
