Box Score HAMILTON, Ont.- The Western Mustangs men’s volleyball team was on the road tonight to challenge the first place McMaster Marauders. The Western Mustangs entered foreign court coming off of a homecourt winning streak where they defeated all their opponents in straight sets.
However, tonight the Mustangs did not have the same fortune as the nationally ranked McMaster Marauders dominated the Mustangs for a second time this season, winning in straight sets. With the loss, the Mustangs record drops to 10-3.
Set scores were: 25-27, 23-25, 20-25
Leading the Mustangs was
Garret May earning a game high 16 points with 13 kills on 35 attempts, while co-captain setter
Sean McKay contributed 28 assists.
The first set was a tight contest as both teams fought hard to gain any kind of momentum. With the play of either team even, both teams exchanged points throughout the set. The set would need a few extra rallies to determine a winner. However, in the end, the Marauders managed to sneak by the Mustangs and took the set 27-2.
Down one set, white and purple had a challenge, but having faced adversity before, it was a challenge they could accept. Western battled equally as hard throughout the second frame, but came just short again, falling for the second time in an equally close set.
The final set of the game was another close encounter. With both teams eager for the win, the Mustangs and Marauders battled and rallied point for point. The Mustangs lost speed and fell 20-25 to the Marauders, costing them the set and the match.
Leading the Marauders was Dany Demyanenko Jimenez with a team high of 15 points, earning 13 kills on 18 attempts while only committing two errors.
The Western Mustangs vie to restart their win streak again tomorrow night when they face the York Lions in Toronto at 8:00 p.m.
