Western eliminated by Brock at the OUA Baseball Championships

Day Two Recap

GUELPH, Ont. - A strong outing from pitcher Justin Ayles helped the Brock Badgers overcome an early deficit to defeat the Westen Mustangs baseball team by a 7-3 score on Saturday morning at Hastings Stadium. The loss eliminates the Mustangs from the OUA Baseball Championships.

The Mustangs started out strong, scoring two runs in the first off of an RBI single from Nolan Anderson and a bases loaded walk to Mitch Grossell. Western picked up another run in the second inning as a Graham Holland single allowed Dustin Saracini to score putting Western up 3-0 after two innings.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs that would be their last run of the game as Brock scored two runs in the fourth, three runs in the sixth, and two runs in the eighth to earn the 7-3 victory.

Rain washed out the day's remaining games, and the OUA Championships will resume on Sunday.

Day One Recap

GUELPH, Ont. – A quick start by the offence helped the Guelph Gryphons defeat the Western Mustangs baseball team 10-1 on the opening day of the OUA Baseball Championships at Hastings Stadium.

The host Gryphons picked up four runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding another five in the top of the third to hold a 9-0 lead after three innings. The Mustangs responded with one run in the fifth, however the Gryphons picked up one more run in the sixth to make it a 10-1 final for Guelph.

2013 OUA Top Pitcher winner Brendan Sorichetti picked up the win for Guelph, allowing only one run on two hits in five innings. Adam Paish took the loss for the Mustangs, allowing nine runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Leading the offence for both sides were the team's respective leadoff hitters and a pair of 2013 OUA All-Stars as Peter Ricciardi went 3-4 at the plate with one walk, two runs scored and two runs batted in while Simon Weisz went 2-4 with one walk and one run scored.

The Mustangs now get set to take on the Brock Badgers in a must-win game for both sides. Game time is set for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19.
