Box Score LONDON, Ont.- The Western Mustang's women's volleyball team hosted the Windsor Lancers on Friday evening at Alumni Hall and were defeated 3-1 with set scores of 25-20, 25-15, 21-25 and 18-25. The Lancers (5-3), who are in first in the OUA West Division, were on a four-game win streak before losing to Ottawa last weekend. The Mustangs (0-6) continue to look for their first win.
Â
"We always play better when we play calm," said head coach Melissa Bartlett regarding the third set. "We had a sense of urgency to get the next point and not just play to finish the set."
Â
The Lancers took the first set 25-20, but not without a good battle from the Mustangs.
Western's shaky defense, combined with technical errors, led to a second set loss of 25-15.
The Mustangs came back strong in the third though and took their first lead of the game just after the technical timeout. Three straight serves from
Candice Scott, followed by a solo block from
Windemere Jarvis put Western up 18-17. Great serving from
Stephanie Kreuter, along with a set-changing ace allowed the Mustangs to take the lead once again at 22-20. The purple and white rounded off the set with a 25-21 win.
The Lancers took the fourth and final set 25-18. Western played with determination, adding three additional kills from
Serena Smith and four digs from
Kenzie MacDonald. But in the end, the Lancer's offense proved to be too much for the Mustangs.
Â
Smith led all Mustangs with 16 kills, followed by Scott and MacDonald with 12 and ten respectively. Kaila Seguin had 16 kills for the Lancers, while Melissa Smyth contributed four serve aces.
