Mustangs fall to Gryphons in four sets

Box Score LONDON, Ont. – The Western Mustangs women's volleyball team hosted the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Hall today and were defeated 3-1 with set scores of 21-25, 25-21, 21-25 and 7-25. With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 0-7 on the 2013/14 OUA regular season.

Despite the loss, head coach Melissa Bartlett remains confident, "I feel that even though we have yet to win a match, it doesn't feel like that. We have taken a step forward each match and that's what we're staying focused on looking into the future. It's going to come together."

The first set was close as the teams went back and forth right up to technical timeout, but the Gryphons pulled away and took the set 25-21. The Mustangs came back with a great second set winning 25-15, however they lost that momentum heading into the third and fourth sets, losing 21-25 and 7-25 respectively.

Team leaders included second-year Kenzie MacDonald with 13 kills, nine digs and one solo block, and senior Stephanie Kreuter who contributed nine kills, 15 digs, two solo blocks and one serve ace.

Madison DeDecker led the Gryphons with 13 kills and two serve aces.

The Mustangs return to Alumni Hall tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1:00 p.m.to battle the Brock Badgers. Mustangs fans can catch all of the action live on Mustangs TV.
