THUNDER BAY, Ont. -- The Western Mustang's women's volleyball team hit the road this weekend to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse in Thunder Bay and came out with a 3-0 win tonight in their first match of a double-header weekend. The Mustangs defeated the Thunderwolves in straights sets with scores of 30-28, 25-20 and 25-23.
The Western team, on a high from their first win of the season last weekend against the Brock Badgers, Â fought a tough first set with the Thunderwolves. The team effort, combined with a total of 20 kills allowed the Mustangs the final two-point advantage needed to take the set 30-28.
Continuing their winning streak, the Mustangs took the second set 25-20, with few errors and nine kills.
The Mustangs battled hard to maintain their 2-0 set lead and finished up the match by defeating the Thunderwolves 25-23 in a close third and final set. Â
The win puts Western on a two-game win streak and the team is now 2-6 on the season.
Second-Year Mustang Kenzie MacDonald led the team with 10 kills, five digs and three solo blocks for a total of 13 points. Stephanie Kreuter followed closely with 10 kills and six digs.
Jorie Diamond led the Thunderwolves with 10 kills and 3 service aces.
The Mustangs complete their double-header weekend, and their last roadtrip before the holidays, with one more match-up against the Lakehead Thunderwolves tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
