Ottawa Gee-Gees - Saturday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m.
The Ottawa Gee-Gees will host the Western Mustangs in Ottawa this weekend to mark the beginning of the 2012-2013 OUA playoff season. Ottawa enters the post-season after a successful regular season campaign, finishing near the top of the OUA conference in second place, just under the York Lions. Ottawa retained a 16-2 season record with 51 games for and only 15 against.
The last time the Gee-Gees met the Mustangs was back in November, where the Gee-Gees trumped the Mustangs in four sets, winning 3-1. Most recently, Ottawa rallied with the Lakehead Thunderwolves twice last weekend, where the first match, at 11:00 am Sunday, was a difficult test as the Gee-Gees fell 1-3 (19-25, 23-25, 27-25, 23-25), to the Thunderwolves. The second game, played that day at 2:00 p.m., due to weather rescheduling, posed a new fate, as Ottawa picked up their socks, scoring a victory after losing 4 other sets to the Thunderwolves, winning 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18).
The Gee-Gees are led by Karina Kreuger Schwanke, with 257 kills, 301 points, and a 4.64 point per game average in 65 games played. She has remained in first place in the OUA regular season standings. Ottawa hopes to take charge of the court this weekend in effort to earn a spot in the OUA final four.
The Mustangs take the court this Saturday, February 16 where they will challenge the competitive Ottawa Gee-Gees at 2:00 p.m. in Ottawa for a spot in next week’s OUA Final Four.
