ST. CATHERINES, Ont. – Two goals from Christian Douglas helped the Western Mustangs men's soccer team pick up their third victory of the season, defeating the Brock Badgers 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Western now owns a 3-1-2 record for 2013 and sit in fifth place in the OUA West Division, only three points out of third, while the Badgers fall to 0-5-2.
Oakville native Douglas gave the Mustangs a quick lead scoring the first goal of the game at the two-minute mark. He added to the Mustangs lead later in the half when he racked up his second goal of the day at 27 minutes. Brock responded prior to the end of the half as Badgers midfielder Aaron Vasant put his team on the scoreboard with a goal at the 43-minute mark to set the score 2-1 going into the break.
In the second half the Mustangs were able to turn out five shots against Badgers goalie Jake Sweetzer, with the Mustangs Filippo Iuliani finally adding the third and final Mustangs goal to the board at 71 minutes. The purple and white defence played incredibly strong as they blocked out the Badgers offence and prevented them from firing a single shot off on Mustangs goalie Adam Majer. When the clock ran out the Mustangs walked away with a 3-1 victory and their third win of the 2013 season.
The Mustangs are back in action on Sunday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. when they travel to Hamilton to face off against the McMaster Marauders.
