LONDON, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men's soccer team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks on Saturday, Sept. 7 at TD Stadium in their second game of the season, following a victory over the Windsor Lancers last weekend.
The Mustangs look to continue to move up the OUA West standings, with today's victory resulting in a 2-0-1 record on the season. Mustangs player #13 Alessandro Colacci started the scoring in the first half with the first and only goal of the game.
The second half was a tight defensive match with both sides remaining scoreless, making Colacci's early goal the winning goal for the Mustangs and setting the final score at 1-0 for Western.
The Ridgebacks managed just two shots on goal the entire game thanks to Western's strong defensive play, while the Mustangs had six shots on goal on their end. The Mustangs remain undefeated after three regular season OUA matches.
Head coach Rock Bassaco says, "I think we've been pretty solid on defense - we've worked on our technique quite a bit." He adds: "With Jovan out -Â potentially - now it's just a matter of whether different boys can step it up."
The Mustangs play their next game against the York Lions on Sunday, Sept. 8 in Toronto. The game will be held at York Stadium with gametime slated for 3:15 p.m.
