Men's soccer team falls to York for first loss of the season

TORONTO - The Mustangs men's soccer team had some tough competition when they faced the undefeated York Lions in Toronto on Sunday. The Lions, who now have a perfect 4-0 record and lead the OUA West standings, kept their undefeated streak alive with a 5-1 win over Western.

The Lions were quick to display why they are on top of the OUA West with Mark-Anthony Kaye scoring York's first goal at 10:00 on a penalty kick. The Lions offense did not let up for the rest of the half as goals from Dylan Sacremento at 18:00 and Joesph Cicchillo at 38:00 gave York a 3-0 lead. Though the Lions gave a goal back by scoring on their own net at 42:00, the Mustangs still trailed by two heading into halftime.

Western was unable to gain any ground in the second half, in part due to Sacremento's dominant performance. With additional goals at 54:00 and 61:00, Sacremento picked up a hat trick with three goals on the day. York's defense stymied the Mustangs offense to just four shots on goal as the game ended with a final score of 5-1.

The Mustangs play their next game Sunday, September 15 at University Stadium in Waterloo against the Laurier Golden Hawks. The game is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m. following the completion of the women's game.
