Western's women's volleyball team is back on the court this week for their first game in over a month after the holiday break. The Western squad will travel to Hamilton on Friday to take on the McMaster Marauders as 2014 OUA women's volleyball action gets underway. After facing some of the top teams in Ontario at the start of the year the Mustangs celebrated their first two wins of the season at the end of November with a 3-2 victory over the Brock Badgers, followed immediately by a 3-0 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The team now sits with a 2-8 record on the season and will be looking to add another win heading into Friday's matchup against the Marauders.
Fourth-year left-side
Stephanie Kreuter continues to lead the Mustangs with an average of 3.60 points per set and a total of 15 blocks and 98 digs on the season. She continues to hold her place in the top ten on the OUA scoring leaderboard and currently sits in ninth spot.
The last time the Mustangs and the Marauders matched up was at Alumni Hall in late October when Western held McMaster to five sets but was unable to come away with a victory - the Mustangs will be looking for redemption this time around when they face the Marauders on their home court.
Western vs. McMaster – Friday, January 10 at 6 PM
The McMaster Marauders are 6-5 on the season after their most recent 3-0 win over the Waterloo Warriors before the break. Despite being victorious in their previous matchup with Western, the Mustangs are the only team so far this season to take the Marauders to five sets and Friday promises to be an exciting battle with the purple and white fighting for their third win of the season.
6'1" offside hitter Sophie Bukovec leads the McMaster squad with 3.91 points per set and 66 digs on the season.
Friday's game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton.
