Box Score ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Adam Jaekel tallied his first goal of the season and Mike Filopovic stopped all four shots he faced to help the Mustangs down the Brock Badgers 1-0 on the road Sunday afternoon.
With today's victory the Mustangs now advance to a 4-0-1 record in the OUA West Division standings and own a five-game undefeated streak to start the 2014 season. The Badgers now hold a 0-3-1 record in the divisions standings.Â
In the first half of the action the Mustangs offence put in a good effort to pressure the Badger's in their end of the field. Despite strong offensive play, however, the Mustangs were unable to capitalize on shooting opportunities and the match went into the break scoreless on both ends.Â
The Badger's came out in the second half of the match ready to counter the Mustangs with some offensive pressure of their own, but it was Mustangs rookie and London, Ontario native Adam Jaekel who would strike first. Jaekel made his regular season scoring debut as he found the back of the Badger's net to give the purple and white all the offence they would need for victory.Â
The clean sheet was Filopovic's first of the season in his first start of the year. Three goaltenders have starred for Western so far this season, with Ben Cowman (3-0-0) and Adam Majer (0-0-1) also making starts for the Mustangs.Â
Western will be back in action on Saturday, September 13, as they go head-to-head at home with the York Lions. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Mustangs Field.Â
