Mustangs extend winning streak to five games

The Mustangs kept their five game win streak alive over the October 3rd weekend, beating the Laurier Golden Hawks 15-7 and the Laurentian Voyagers 12-5 in a pair of road contests. This keeps Western on top of the West Division with a 6-1 record.

In Waterloo on October 3 the Mustangs dominated the the Golden Hawks with a five goal lead after the first quarter. Thomas Masterson, who ended up going 2-1,  was critical in the early stages getting a couple of goals and an assist to get Western off to a great 6-2 start. Jordi Jones-Smith, who went 2-1, continues to be the engine that powers the transition game of UWO along with mainstay Sam Neeb. Jones-Smith is a Jr A player who has three years of service with the Whitby Warrior Jr A club. He was drafted last Monday, September 28th into the National Lacrosse League by the New England Black Wolves.

This trend continued on throughout the game, and Western ended up on top. Point leaders included Cody Ward who went 2-3 and Ryan McCrory with 4 goals.

On Sunday, October 4 Western travelled to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyagers.

Thomas Lapiccirella did a terrific job filling in for goalie Manraj Nijjar stopping 11 of 16 shots. Lapiccirella looks to be a solid second option between the pipes and has added to UWO depth as it moves forward in the season.

Western dominated play during most of the game and controlled flow and transition. The Mustangs were led again by the attack pairing of McCrory (5-1) and Cody Ward (4-0) who are leading a vey strong offense.

Western takes on the McMaster Marauders this Friday, October 9th at 8:30 p.m. at Mustangs Field and hope to continue on their streak.
