Playing without top scorer
Mackenzie Puklicz on Wednesday night, Horst stepped up and recorded the highest point total of her CIS career. Her 28 points, eight of which were in the game-deciding final quarter, came on 10-17 field goal shooting as well as going five for six from the free throw line.
Caroline Wolynski was huge on the scoreboard as well, adding 21 points of her own, while
Julia Curran earned a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Waterloo's Kristin Osborne earned the title of top scorer of the night, leading all players with 32 points. Elizabeth Holmes and Emily Wilk also contributed double digits for Waterloo with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Although Western and Waterloo find themselves on different ends of the OUA West standings, the Warriors made sure that Wednesday night's win didn't come easy for the Mustangs.
The first quarter belonged to Western as they scored 13 points and allowed only three against. Having yet to score any points of her own, Osbourne turned the game around for the home side in the second quarter.
After hitting a three in the first minute she proceeded to score 13 more points in the frame, helping the Warriors to outscore the Mustangs 24-16. The half ended with Western holding a slight 29-27 lead.
The third quarter proved to be even closer than the second, with Waterloo outscoring the Mustangs 25-22 to take a 52-51 lead into the final quarter.
The final ten minutes were what made the difference— as the Mustangs started the quarter off on an 10-0 run to retake the lead. It was a lead that they wouldn't relinquish as Western claimed a 76-66 victory.
Having just finished three games on the road, the Mustangs are back at home this Saturday, January 30 at 1 p.m. Fans can catch the game live at Alumni Hall, on OUA.tv, or on CHRW Radio 94.9 FM.
