WATERLOO, Ont. – The Mustangs headed down to Waterloo for their penultimate game of the regular season and returned with a dominant 63-28 victory over Laurier.
With the win Western holds a 4-2-1 record, while the Golden Hawks sit at 2-5-0.
Scoring was split among the purple and white roster, with
John Mitchell,
Peter Milazzo,
William Sauder,
Dax Inman,
Cole Sopik,
Trevor Noskiewicz,
William McMartin, and
Ryan Choma all pushing through to Laurier's in-goal area. Sopik and McMartin both recorded two majors, while Sauder and
Mitchell Brant each added nine more points to Western's hefty total.
Laurier attempted to fight back with impressive performances and tries from Andrew Quattrin, Derek Boyd, and Aidan Nesbitt, but were unable to compete with the powerful Mustangs offence.
Western was quick to put points on the board, running in two tries - with subsequent converts - in the first five minutes of play. From that point on, the Golden Hawks nearly matched the Mustangs try-for-try to head into the half with Western sporting a 29-21 lead.
It wasn't until the second half that the Mustangs began to run away with the game, holding Laurier to a single try while adding seven of their own to hand the Golden Hawks a home-field loss.
The Mustangs are back in action next Saturday, October 22, for their regular season finale. Their final matchup will be in St. Catharines against the Brock Badgers, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
