Western earns 1-1 draw with Brock

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – A first half goal from Rudy James helped the Western Mustangs finish out their weekend schedule with a 1-1 draw with the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon.

Western currently occupies fourth place in the OUA West Division with a 5-2-4 record, while the Badgers sit in seventh at 2-5-4.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead on Sunday, with James finding the back of the net with his first goal of the season only 13 minutes into the contest. James' marker was the only goal of the half, with Western taking their 1-0 lead into halftime.

After a first half that saw the Mustangs outshoot their opponents 5-4, the Western offence took over in the second, firing off 13 shots compared to only five from the Badgers. However, it was Brock who notched the only goal of the second frame, with Arsen Platis scoring in the 86th minute to end the game in a 1-1 draw.

Kirit Mascarenhas got the start in net for Western, and turned aside three shots on Sunday. Matt Zaikos countered for Brock, making six saves.

Next up for the Mustangs is a road contest with the Windsor Lancers on Friday, October 7, with game time set for 8:15 p.m.
